To help preserve the richness of the cyanotype blue, keep artwork out of prolonged direct sunlight when possible. Fabric pieces should be gently hand washed in cold water with mild detergent and laid flat or hung to dry. Over time, subtle shifts in tone may naturally occur and are part of the beauty of this handmade process.

Working together begins with a simple conversation. For custom commissions, you can submit an inquiry through the contact form with details about the piece you’re envisioning, whether it involves wedding florals, heirloom textiles, botanicals, or a custom item from the studio. From there, we’ll discuss ideas, materials, timing, and next steps before the creative process begins.

Cyanotype is a historic alternative photography process that uses sunlight, water, and light-sensitive materials to create its signature deep blue color. Each piece is coated by hand, layered with botanicals, exposed to sunlight, and then rinsed in water to reveal the final print. Because the process responds to nature, every piece develops uniquely.

Cyanotype art is a form of alternative photography known for its rich blue tones and organic, one-of-a-kind results. At Selah Revival, real botanicals are used to create handmade botanical cyanotype prints on paper and textiles using sunlight and water rather than traditional inks or digital printing methods.

Selah Revival works primarily with natural fibers and archival-quality materials, including cotton, linen, silk, and fine art paper to create lasting botanical cyanotype pieces.
-
Yes. Cyanotype is one of the oldest photographic printing processes and is considered a form of alternative photography. Instead of using a camera, objects like botanicals are placed directly onto coated surfaces to create photographic impressions using sunlight.
-
Absolutely. Cyanotype works beautifully on natural textiles such as cotton, linen, and silk, making it ideal for wearable art and functional home goods.
-
Selah Revival embraces a slow-made approach rooted in intentional craftsmanship, natural materials, and small-batch creation. Many botanicals are locally gathered or carefully sourced, and each piece is created thoughtfully rather than mass produced.
-
Because cyanotype depends on sunlight, weather, and the handmade process, commission timelines can vary. Most custom pieces take several weeks from consultation to completion depending on the scope of the project.
